![]() Most folks use the trains for local and medium distance traveling/commuting.įar distances are taken by airplane and local transportation done by either bicycle or bus. Mileage is kept low on the vehicles as EVERYONE (unless your fabulously rich and patient) uses alternative transportation to get around. In other words, for a 10 year old car, you will have already paid over $8,000, in just Safety Inspection fees! Don't forget, gas over in Japan is also typically four times the cost of here in the U.S. The high taxes (annually assessed), insurance premiums, gas costs, and especially the safety inspection/registration (occurs biennial) combine to keep turnover of vehicles high.įor example, the Safety inspection for your typical car (say Camry/Accord type) can typically cost $2,000.each time! New vehicles have a 3 year grace period before they are required to submit for the Safety Inspection. That is a urban myth propagated by importers and car owners who simply don't know or understand the situation in Japan. There is no such law "requiring" engine replacement at a certain mileage. I did some research on the Internet to see if there was some truth to the story, and Cheston with Soko America told me this: I had read somewhere a few years ago about a supposed law in Japan that requires engine replacement at 30,000 miles. You need a timing light, and a razor knife to do that. ![]() 94-97 3vz-fe's have without spending a sent. Then setting your distributor from the stock 10*btdc timing, to 17*btdc timing. You can simply tighten your AFM's spring to decrease the amount of air the ECU see's, leaning the fuel mixture. You *could* buy a new ECU and hope they're wired the same (many engines in the same family over the years are NOT. You can gain no power by installing any year 3vz-fe by itself. 94-97 3vz-fe's gained 1 lb-ft of peak torque, and 15 hp from a leaner fuel mixture, helped by more advanced ignition timing maps. There is no differance, worldwide, between the 92/93 and 94-97 3vz-fe's. Speculation that ES 300 / Windom's recieved 3vz-fe's with tighter tolerances. The only differance is the fact that the JDM engine has no EGR port on the upper intake air chamber. All North American 3vz-fe's (92-93) come from the same JDM factory. There is no performance differance, no ECU tuning, no parts changed.
